Free demonstration by celebrity glass blower

US glass blower and the star of Netflix’s hit series “Blown Away”, Alexander Rosenberg, will give a glass-blowing demonstration as a free public event for National Science Week. Canberra Glassworks, August 12.

LEGEND of comedy and founding member of Monty Python, John Cleese, will  report on his experiences in the afterlife, and what the audience can expect when they get there. Canberra Theatre, August 14.

ITAZURA Co is staging the premiere of “Kiku” (“listen” in Japanese), a short dance film directed by Natsuko Yonezawa, who brings together six women over 50, who express their individual journeys of ageing. Arc Cinema, August 11.

  • THE Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase Tour, with a line-up of festival favourites and new talents, Canberra Theatre,  August 10.
  • JOANNA Richards’ philosophical thriller, “You Can’t Tell Anyone”, staged by Canberra Youth Theatre, is at The Courtyard Studio, August 10-20.
  • “JUST Live on Stage!” is Andy Griffiths’ “Just” series vividly brought to life on the stage in a play by Robin Goldsworthy and directed by Iain Sinclair, suitable for 8-12-year-olds. At The Q, Queanbeyan, August 11-12.
  • CHRIS Nolan, voice coach for the lead on the national tour of “Elvis – The Musical”, is being hosted by Canberra’s Wild Voices Music Theatre, at the Hume Conservatorium, Goulburn, August 16. Inquiries to 0417 548851.
  • THE production “Rich Kids: A History of Shopping Malls in Tehran”, planned for The Street Theatre, August 12, has been cancelled.

  • NEW exhibitions at Beaver Galleries, Deakin, are “Silver Thread”, paintings by Robert Boynes, and “Quiet Harmonies”, porcelain by Prue Venables. August 11- 26.

  • SINGER-songwriter Diesel will perform at The Playhouse, August 11.
  • THE Australian Chamber Orchestra will perform the music of Antonín Dvořák and Béla Bartók in a recital directed by ACO artistic director Richard Tognetti. Llewellyn Hall, August 12.
  • JENNIFER Hou and Patrick Galvin will perform “Romance to Ruin”, a program spanning 200 years. Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, August 12.
  • APEIRON Baroque will perform a concert which contrasts the softer sounds of the viola da gamba and viola d’amore in works by Erlebach and Lully against the stronger sounding violin family in works by Corelli. Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, August 13.
  • AINSLIE Salon presents “Essential Tremors” at Ainslie Arts Centre, Braddon, August 15.
  • THE Music Academy at Canberra Girls’ Grammar will perform at Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, August 16.
  • CANBERRA Symphony Orchestra’s third Llewellyn Series concert, “Winter Dreams”, Llewellyn Hall, August 16.
