A man accused of leaving a pair of pet snakes on a Sydney footpath has been charged with domestic violence related offences and refused bail, reports Rachael Ward.

A MAN has been charged with domestic violence related offences after allegedly freeing two pet snakes on a footpath in Sydney’s east.

Police allege the 25-year-old damaged two snake enclosures at a unit on Mount Street in Coogee and placed the animals in an unsecured box outside the home about 11pm last Saturday.

The snakes, which belong to a 25-year-old woman known to the man, have not yet been found.

Media reports cite a social media post from the owner claiming the pythons, named Mango and Bagel, are 2.5 metres long and unlikely to survive in the wild.

The man was arrested on Friday evening and charged with two counts of destroying or damaging property worth less than $2000 under the classification of a domestic violence offence.
