Officials take a closer look at Link mishap

Link Airways… on notice over its staff training to identify aircraft faults.

By Scott Mayman, aviation writer

CANBERRA-based Link Airways is on notice over its staff training to identify aircraft faults, while officials widen their investigation into a separate incident from late last year.

In November, an object pierced the fuselage of a Link aircraft on take off from Canberra airport, injuring a passenger and creating a scare for others on board.

The Australian Transport Safety Board has announced it plans to widen the investigation after discovering, what it calls “several risk controls”.

Meanwhile, the regulator has found that an inspection failed to identify the seriousness of a faulty seal that caused cabin air to escape from a plane in March, forcing the aircraft to return to the airport. Staff have been re-trained.
