A creative producer and program co-ordinator at the National Film and Sound Archive is the new CEO of the Canberra Writers Festival.

Travis Green, who comes to the job with a formidable background in the arts, will take up his position on June 3.

An experienced creative producer, Green joined the NFSA in 2020 before in 2023 becoming manager, Programs and Visitor Experience.

A graduate in theatre production from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Masters of Business in arts and cultural management, he worked at Sydney Theatre Company, Deakin University and the Sydney Writers’ Festival before moving to Canberra.

Once here, he quickly involved himself in the cultural life of the town and became a board member of M16 Artspace.

Green will join artistic director Beejay Silcox in shaping the future of the popular literary and intellectual event which, founded in 2016, will this year shift from winter to the final quarter of the year.

Canberra Writers Festival, October 23-27.

Hopefully Travis will broaden the appeal of the festival, from largely white women to many different people, and make it more appealing for men (as well as boys, who are falling behind in schools, literacy/reading, university, and the workplace).
