A 24-year-old man from Kaleen is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty based on self-recorded videos showing him killing kangaroos by driving into them.
Police say two recorded incidents were allegedly committed in April 2024 in which the man recorded himself while driving a 4WD vehicle on the Kings Highway in Kowen.
The first video depicts the man crossing to the incorrect side of the road and colliding with a kangaroo. The second video depicts the man driving in the breakdown lane and on to the grass verge, colliding with a kangaroo grazing near the roadway.
Police allege both incidents were deliberate acts and have charged him with two counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal causing death, two counts of dangerous driving and two counts of using a mobile phone while driving.
