Bailed man charged after city pursuit

A 28-year-old man, who was on bail for similar alleged offences, has been charged after a police pursuit through Civic on Saturday morning.

About 7.55am, police attempted to stop a blue Honda Jazz with ACT registration YEM53Q in Braddon.

As officers approached, the driver allegedly sped off towards Mort Street and Northbourne Avenue.

The vehicle was allegedly driven dangerously through Civic, including through red lights and on the wrong side of the road, before continuing towards Belconnen via Parkes Way.

A police pursuit was initiated but later terminated. The vehicle was last seen travelling at high speed on Kingsford Smith Drive.

Police found the man hiding under a bed in a home in Torrens on Sunday afternoon.

He has been charged with driving while suspended, failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving, failing to appear after bail undertaking, and breaching treatment order obligations.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from Civic or Belconnen areas around the time to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
