Police swoop on parkway drivers – 1200 tested

POLICE swooped on the Tuggeranong Parkway yesterday (September 14) breath testing 1200 drivers and conducting 20 random drug tests.

The targetted operation snared one drunk driver, two drug drivers and two disqualified drivers. Police also issued 11 Traffic Infringement Notices and two people were arrested on First Instance Warrants.

Officer in Charge Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said: “It is always disappointing for police when people are detected driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. These drivers are not only risking their lives, but the lives of others when they’re on the road.

“Community safety and reducing the potential for serious or fatal accidents is a priority for ACT Policing, and we will continue to target drink and drug drivers.”
