PRIZEWINNING poet and guru of multi-lingual spoken word poetry in Canberra, Jacqui Malins is holding weekly workshops in both in Woden and Tuggeranong through June.

Malins’ first book of poetry, “Cavorting with Time”, was published by Recent Works Press in 2018, but her specialty is writing poetry to be spoken out loud. She was a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam in 2015 and has featured at poetry events including the National Folk Festival.

The Southside Spoken free workshops have been designed for people new to poetry and spoken word and will include people who want to work in languages other than English, a focus Malins has specialised in over the past few years through her Mother Tongue Multilingual Poetry performances at the National Multicultural Festival and in arts centres around Canberra.

Malins told “CityNews” there would be four weekly workshops in each location (Tuesdays in Woden Youth Centre and Wednesdays in Tuggeranong Arts Centre ) aimed at developing writing for spoken word and performance skills while sharing culture and experience.

The workshops will culminate in a public showcase giving participants the chance to perform alongside established featured poets.
