AN SOS has arrived at the arts desk from composer and music educator, Judith Clingan, director of Wayfarers Australia Choir.

Clingan has performers coming from Taiwan, Japan, India and Switzerland. Altogether there will be 77 performers rehearsing and touring with her throughout July.

She needs help in finding enough Canberra households willing to give a bed or a mattress to some overseas performers on Saturday, July 13.

For the first two weeks of July, she will rehearse them at Warrambui, a conference centre near Murrumbateman, so will spend only one day/night in Canberra – Saturday, July 13, when they will rehearse in the Overture Hall at Orana School, eat at 5.30pm, then perform at 7pm.

Clingan estimates that by 9.30pm or so, the performers, aged 11 to 77, will be looking forward to bed. They will have their own sleeping bag, pillow case and towel so she is looking for a bed, or a mattress on the floor.

On Sunday, July 14, they will begin a tour of rural NSW, Victoria and SA.

Young people aged 15 or younger from other countries may feel more secure if they could be in a pair with another person from their country, but she believes 16-year-olds upwards would cope alone.
