Tuggeranong’s ‘foreshore’ will get upgrades under Labor

ACT Labor candidate Mick Gentleman

ACT Labor will invest $4.75 million for major improvements to the foreshore precinct from Reed Street south to Tuggeranong Town Park, if re-elected next weekend.

The party says upgrades will include a new playground, recreation facilities, better green spaces and accessibility improvements.

“If re-elected, ACT Labor will [also] invest an additional $2 million to clean up Lake Tuggeranong and reduce algae blooms,” says ACT Labor environment spokesperson and candidate for Brindabella Mick Gentleman.

“Guided by expert advice, we will build more gross-pollutant traps and wetlands to clean and filter water as it flows through smaller creeks and waterways into the lake.

“ACT Labor is also re-affirming our commitment to local catchment groups and WaterWatch with $215,000 funding each year, along with $75,000 for the much-loved frog watch program.”

ACT Labor’s plan for Tuggeranong also includes:

  • A new walk-in health centre in South Tuggeranong;
  • A new ice skating facility in Tuggeranong;
  • $100 million investment into the Monaro Highway;
  • $10 million for a new, purpose built facility for the Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation in Wanniassa;
  • A southside hydrotherapy pool;
  • Local school upgrades;
  • New shared paths and cycleways;
  • Improved local sporting facilities;
  • Upgraded playgrounds, local shopping centres and a new dog park in Lanyon Valley.

Labor knows they’re in trouble in Tuggeranong and Mick Gentleman wants to keep his seat

But surely no matter what the Greens/Labor government promises, the response must always be “it’s four years since the last election and you’ve been in for 19 years – WHY HASN’T IT BEEN DONE ALREADY?”.
