THERE were almost a thousand new cases of COVID-19 and a rising number of people with the virus in hospital, according to the latest numbers from ACT Health today (January 6).
In the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday there were 992 new covid cases recorded in the ACT, with 3565 active cases.
The number of covid patients in hospital as at 8pm yesterday has risen to 20, two of whom are in intensive care and both on ventilators. At yesterday’s covid update press conference, chief health officer Dr Kerry Coleman said modelling on hospitalisations for the week beginning January 10 ranged from 16-60 people with ICU admissions around seven to 10 patients, but that the ACT was “well placed” to handle this estimated demand.
There were 2311 negative test results received in the 24 hours to 9am today.
Meanwhile in vaccinations, ACT has released for the first time that 18.9 per cent of ACT residents 18 and above have received their booster vaccination. As at December 24, there were 98.5 per cent of ACT residents 12 and over fully vaccinated.
