CANBERRA’S Civic Square post office will close before Christmas.

The post office has been told by it’s Canberra Centre landlord to vacate the Bunda Street premises by the end of November.

“The Civic Square Post Office will be closing on November 30 and unfortunately there are no suitable alternative locations within Canberra Centre,” an Australia Post spokesperson told CityNews.

“Both Canberra GPO and Braddon Post Office are located within one kilometre and will continue to provide a full range of postal services for the area.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

No employees will loose their jobs, and staff will be redeployed to other Australia Post outlets, the spokesperson said.

It’s unclear why Australia Post has been asked to vacate their Canberra Centre premises.

This is ridiculous! This Post Office is always very busy. There are hundreds of new apartments nearby who will lose access.

Ridiculous doesn’t begin to describe Australia Post’s customer relations. We have a PO box there, and have still not had any notification from Australia Post this is happening. Nor what alternatives are available to us or others with PO boxes. Living in Braddon, the Jolimont Centre is much further to walk, and parking would be ridiculous. As it is we took one of the 5 remaining ones at Ainslie, and will now need to re-direct all mail. And have you tried contacting them on their website, or get some information from that?

This was the easiest PO to get to the city area. The GPO in Alinga Street has no free parking (and you have to be extremely lucky to find pay parking close by) and the lines are always insanely long. It’s also extremely hard to find a parking spot close to the Braddon PO plus it’s tiny and gets really busy at lunchtime.
