The Australian Transport Safety Bureau cannot “conclusively determine” the cause of a fatal light plane crash two years ago in the Yass Valley Council area, says Chief Aviation Investigations Commissioner Angus Mitchell.
Peter Nally and his three grandchildren were killed when the four-seater aircraft nose-dived into the ground near Gundaroo, just after take-off on October 6, 2023, from Canberra Airport
The family was returning home to Armidale.
The plane took off from Canberra Airport and headed south and turned north-east before crashing.
The bureau released its final report into the crash, saying the pilot did not call on his radio for help. It also appears there were no emergency measures taken before the crash.
The report also shows there was no post-mortem evidence of the pilot suffering any sudden medical failure
Commissioner Mitchell says there was significant post-impact fire, which limited the collection of evidence.
