A new grade five level hiking trail has opened in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
“Not for the faint hearted”, Government Services Minister Tara Cheyne says of the track, but while challenging to complete, comes with the reward of some of the best views in the ACT.
“This exciting new hiking track is one of the most difficult tracks in the ACT,” she says.
“Experienced hikers who brave the journey will be awed by the landscape.”
Designed to improve fire management and emergency response, the multi-purpose track will also improve access for firefighters.
Named Mindjagari, the hiking track means “sky, the clouds appear” in Ngunnawal language. Minister Cheyne says the name was chosen due to the steep slopes of the trail leading hikers to the top of the Tidbinbilla ridgeline where they can see views of the Brindabellas and Kosciuszko National Park.
The new track will add 14km of trails to the Tidbinbilla Range between Fishing Gap and Johns Peak.
It was funded with the assistance of the federal government’s Disaster Ready Fund.
