Rock band the Cat Empire will team up with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra for an orchestral spectacular in September.
The band’s Orchestra Encore Tour sees long-time collaborator Roscoe James Irwin reimagine their catalogue on a symphonic scale, weaving Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and flamenco influences through many of their best-known songs. The result promises to transform the group’s grooves into an orchestral experience.
The performances feature the new era of the band led by original members Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill, joined by bassist Grace Barbe, drummer Daniel Farrugia, percussionist Neda Rahmani and trumpeter Lazaro Numa.
Flamenco artists Richard Tedesco, Johnny Tedesco and Chantelle Cano will also appear, while the orchestra will be conducted by Vanessa Scammell.
Together the musicians will perform Cat Empire favourites and newer material in specially crafted symphonic arrangements, promising a vibrant fusion of pop, jazz, and Latin rhythms,
