A man and woman have been charged after a car was driven at high speed before crashing into a tree in Dickson early on Thursday morning.
About 2am, police spotted a white Kia Sportage parked on Wilshire Street, Dickson. When the driver noticed police, he drove off, despite being told to stop.
The vehicle was later seen on Macarthur Avenue, where the driver again refused to stop, allegedly travelling at 140km/h in an 80km/h zone.
A short time later, the Kia left the road and collided with a tree.
The man and woman attempted to run off but were apprehended a short distance away.
Police located small amounts of substances suspected to be methamphetamine and GHB, as well as a pair of knuckle dusters, during a search of the pair and the vehicle.
The 42-year-old man, who was subject to bail conditions, has been charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
The 36-year-old woman, who was the subject of an arrest warrant, has been charged with possessing a drug of dependence and possessing a prohibited weapon.
