Police seek man over Belconnen assault

A man who may have intervened in an alleged assault near Lake Ginninderra earlier this month is being sought by police.

Police say about 5.45pm on April 2, two women were confronted by a young person on Macdermott Place, Belconnen, who allegedly made racial comments towards them.

The women spoke to the child before the child’s mother allegedly confronted them and repeatedly punched one of the women in the head.

Police allege the woman then produced a knife and made threats to the victim and her friend before leaving the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe a man attempted to intervene in the incident but has not yet come forward.

Police are urging him to contact them on 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
