Canberra-raised actor Patrick Brammall is winning accolades, and a fair bit of envy, in his role as Anne Hathaway’s new beau in The Devil Wears Prada 2, now out in cinemas. And he was allowed to keep his Aussie accent.

Bangarra Dance Theatre presents a triple bill featuring Keeping Grounded, Brown Boys and Sheoak, exploring identity, connection to country and cultural resilience, while honouring the legacy of composer David Page. Canberra Theatre, May 23.

The German Film Festival features true stories, family films, comedy and new drama from Germany’s top filmmakers and actors, opening with Wolfgang Becker’s final film Berlin Hero and closing with Wolfgang Petersen’s Das Boot. At Palace Electric, NewActon, May 6-27.

Canberra author Maura Pierlot will mark the publication of her fifth picture book Our Family Zoo, with a launch celebration inviting readers and families to join the festivities at The Book Cow, Kingston, May 31.

Popular stage and screen identities Paulini and Tim Campbell bring their national tour Electrifying 80s to Canberra with synth-pop hits, ballads and movie anthems from artists such as Madonna, Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, Bon Jovi, Prince and INXS, promising dazzling vocals and irresistible charisma at Canberra Theatre, May 16.

The Llewellyn Series presents Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with pianist Tamara-Anna Cislowska joining the Canberra Symphony Orchestra under conductor Jessica Cottis, alongside works by Deborah Cheetham Fraillon and Debussy. Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music, May 20-21.

Singer-songwriter Ami Williamson returns with her acclaimed one-woman show, blending folk, classical and storytelling traditions. Smith’s Alternative, May 23.

The Australian National Eisteddfod features bands and orchestras across multiple days, highlighting jazz bands, brass ensembles, youth concert bands and school orchestras in a vibrant celebration of young musical talent at Melba Copland Secondary School College Theatre and Llewellyn Hall, ANU, May 21-24.

Further to our previous report that Taiwanese-Australian singer-songwriter Kim Yang has returned to town, news is that she will launch her new album Turn On The Lights in a concert performance at The Street Theatre, May 16.
