A 42-year-old man has been charged after a dangerous driving incident and police pursuit through north Canberra suburbs on Friday morning.

Police were patrolling Lady Denman Drive in Acton when they spotted a black Audi Q5 allegedly travelling at 130km/h in an 80km/h zone, heading towards Clunies Ross Street.

Police activated emergency lights and sirens, however the vehicle failed to stop and continued at speed through surrounding suburbs before heading towards Belconnen.

As the Audi approached Bindubi Street, police used a tyre-deflation device, striking both front tyres. The vehicle allegedly continued through a red traffic light and drove westbound along Belconnen Way.

Police say the Audi was then driven dangerously through Macquarie and Cook, including driving on footpaths and forcing a member of the public to move out of the way to avoid being struck.

The vehicle came to a stop on Biffin Street in Cook, where the driver fled on foot, but was arrested after a short chase.

The man, who was subject to a good behaviour order, refused a drug screening test after arrest. He has been charged with aggravated dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving unlicensed, property damage, and refusing to undergo a screening test.
