TEDx to get a spray from graffiti guru

INTERNATIONALLY  renowned graffiti artist, Vans the Omega, will be part of the TEDx celebration of ideas, art and culture tomorrow at The Playhouse.

Working within the event theme of “An Optimistic Challenge”,  Adelaide-based Vans the Omega will showcase his talent in the often polarising world of graffiti art, live, in a stripped-back performance that will see the artist create new artwork in less than a day, with more than 600 event attendees watching on.

Vans the Omega, an artist with a gift for letterform, colour and impossible patterns, has been painting for more than two decades.

Each canvas that Vans creates will be sold through an auction, with proceeds going to a charity of the buyer’s choice. Local advertising agency CRE8IVE is the project’s art installation partner at the sold-out TEDx day-long event.

Agency creative director Alberto Florez said: “Our ‘Optimistic Challenge’ is that great art and design should be celebrated and enjoyed in whatever form it takes. Art is a way to look at things differently and when you do that, new ideas are born. It’s a huge pleasure that we can bring Vans to Canberra. We have long been admirers of his work and are excited by what he will produce at TEDxCanberra.”

Vans’ creations can be viewed at the Canberra Museum and Gallery courtyard from 10am. Regular updates from the auction will be made online at cre8ive.com.au/tedxcanberra and by following @_CRE8IVE on Twitter.
