Search begins for RAW comics

CANBERRA’S aspiring stand-up comics will have the chance to compete in the country’s most prestigous open mic comedy competition – RAW Comedy.

Past RAW Comedy winners include Chris Lilley, Josh Thomas, Hannah Gadsby, Peter Helliar, Claire Hooper, Mike McLeish and Tim Minchin.

Heats will be held in Melboune, Sydney, Darwin, Hobart, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Newcastle, Geelong, Wollongong, Byron Bay, Cairns and of course, Canberra.

Heat winners will go on to compete in the 2012 RAW Comedy final at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April with the winner receiving the opportunity to compete in “So You Think You’re Funny” at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Anyone who has earnt less than $500 from performing comedy is allowed to enter. And only a five minute stand-up, sketch, double or triple acts, or musical comedy performance is required.
