Monica’s exploration of colour and shape

CANBERRA artist Monica Engel has a new exhibition at The Front Gallery and Cafe until October 21.

“Unashamedly nonspecific”, is how she describes her art, adding that her work is an exploration of the colour and shape of “the undefined”.

Engel says the abstract nature of her work brings liberties, but also insecurities.

“Once I finish a work, the relationship I have with it is over,” she says. But “I’m terrified of having my work on the wall.”

Engel describes relinquishing control and allowing her “highly spontaneous” works to chart their own paths as an important part of the creative process. “I suppose it is my version of parenting,” she says.

Monica Engel exhibition, at The Front Gallery and Café, 2 Wattle   Street, Lyneham, until October 21.
