A HIGH rise apartment complex in Lyneham has been evacuated following a small fire just after 4.30pm today (November 11).
The fire was discovered within a garbage hopper on the ground floor of the Axis Apartments on the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Mouat Street.
Multiple resources responded and the fire was extinguished quickly by the first crew. After extinguishing the fire a large amount of smoke was sent up the ten floors of the building through the garbage shoot forcing an evacuation of 50 residents.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
