New director general of the National Library announced

LOCAL Dr Marie-Louise Ayres has been appointed by the Turnbull Government as the next director general of the National Library of Australia. marie-louise ayres

Since 2002 Ayres has worked in senior management roles at the National Library and during this time has led the development of transformative digital services.

Recently, Ayres worked to increase the prominence of the National Library’s collection by leading its online archive, “Trove”.

Ayres will begin her five-year term on March 2, next year, taking over from Anne-Marie Schwirtlich who has been the director general since 2011.
