THE National Gallery of Australia will extend the opening hours of “Cartier: The Exhibition” on its last weekend, until 6pm on Saturday, July 21 and the final day, Sunday, July 22. The rest of the gallery will close at 5pm. Weekday opening hours remain the same at 10am-5pm.” Cartier: The Exhibitio”,n closes at 6pm on Sunday, July 22.

IN “Art explorer: Diamonds are a kid’s best friend” (for children eight and up) the NGA helps children to make some glittering wearable art. NGA, 10.30am–4pm, July 20. Tickets include exhibition entry, all supplied materials and children will be fully supervised. Bookings to nga.gov.au

M16 Artspace’s Thursday floor talk will feature artists Llewellyn McGarry and Brian Hinksman talking about their current exhibitions. M16, Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, 1pm-2pm, Thursday, July 19. All welcome, free event.

BRING art and science together, the gallery of small things is heading to the CSIRO, where it will host painter Nic Mason in her first solo show in Canberra. CSIRO Discovery Centre, Science Gallery, opening 5.30pm, Wednesday, July 18, all welcome.

IN “Why?” the 2018 CAPO Emerging Artists’ Prize, six emerging artists (Jeremy Brown, Dean Cross, Bryan Foong, Alex Hobba, Skye Jamieson and Nyx Mathews) explore the big questions. At Foyer Gallery, ANU School of Art & Design, July 20–31. Opening by Prof Denise Ferris, 6pm, Friday, July 20.

AARWUN Gallery at Gold Creek is holding a reception for veteran plein-air landscape artists, Ted Lewis and Robert Pengilley, as they present new works from these painters, who are enjoying the height of their long careers. 2pm Sunday, July 22. All welcome.

THE ANU Classics Museum is holding a holiday event for children (8-12 years) to introduce young ones to the ancient world of Greece and Rome. Children and grandchildren are welcome with adults to an interactive session run by voluntary guides of the museum, with “hands on” material to explore and investigate some of the objects in the collection. “Time Team”, Classics Museum, Hope Building, Ellery Crescent, ANU, 10am-12pm, Friday, July 20. Morning refreshments will be provided. Free event.

“TREES”, at ANCA Gallery reflects the experiences of seeing, being with and listening to trees, through textiles, paint, drawing, sound and video. Six artists, Wendy Dodd, Deborah Faeyrglenn, Susan Hey, Janet Meany, Sharon Peoples and Marli Popple, will be featured in the exhibition. At1 Rosevear Street, Dickson, opening 6pm, Wednesday, July 18. All welcome. The show runs until August 5.

WORKS by Asialink Arts reciprocal resident, Chisa Kobayashi, can be viewed by the public at Canberra Glassworks. She is the final recipient of the Asialink Creative Exchange program between Canberra Glassworks and Toyama Glass Studio, and has been working from the glassblowing studio in the Glassworks since mid-June. Her works can be viewed at Wentworth Avenue,  Kingston, from July 18 to July 22.
