Road closed to fix leaking water main

REPAIRS to a leaking water main at the on-ramp from Collett Street to Monaro Street in Queanbeyan will take until Friday to fix.

There will be a road closure between 7am and 9pm all week, with alternate routes and traffic management in place.

“The valve we are fixing has been leaking for approximately four weeks, during which time council has assessed the damage, developed a plan to fix the leak and gained necessary approvals from Roads and Maritime Authority to conduct the work,” Queanbeyan Council’s general manager Gary Chapman said.

“It is believed that the leak was caused when a gate fell off the spindle of the water main and it’s likely this is due to age of the infrastructure which we estimate is about 46 years old.

“During the work there will be some water service interruptions to nearby properties and they have been advised of this by council.”
