ACT road toll doubles overnight

THE ACT’s road toll doubled to four over the weekend, after two women were killed in separate accidents just a few hours apart on Saturday morning.

A woman aged in her forties died after the motorcycle she was riding on as a passenger crashed into a guardrail on Cotter Road, near Casuarina Sands.

Police were notified of the collision at about 2.30am, and the woman was taken to The Canberra Hospital with serious head and chest injuries as well as multiple fractures.

The man who was driving the motorcycle lost control around a bend, suffering only minor injuries, while the woman was thrown from the passenger seat.

Only a few hours later at 4am, police officers on a routine night patrol discovered a woman dead behind the wheel of a vehicle which had collided with a tree on the side of Kambah Pool Road.

Anyone who witnessed either collision can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by going to act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
