Artistic dialogue across the continents

THE NEWLY refurbished Tuggeranong Arts Centre Gallery is presently home to “Nexus,” an exhibition exploring the dialogue between artists from diverse cultural backgrounds including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and El Salvador.

The exhibition shows how circles of art do not  end in one country but rather  overlap to  cover the world.

In an impressive achievement for the arts centre, works by  15 artists are on show— Sasha Adato (Venezuelan born, Melbourne based); Carla Ascarza (Paraguay based); Javier Baez, (Mexican-born, Sydney based); Maria Fernanda Cardoso (Colombian-born, Sydney based); Leonardo Cremonese,(Brazilian-born, Sydney based); Mauricio de la Rocha, (Peruvian-born, Sydney based);Fernando do Campo (Argentinean- born, Hobart based); Fernando Espinosa (Ecuador based); Sarrita King (Gurindyi tribe, Darwin, Canberra based); Rodrigo Muñoz,(Chilean-born, Sydney based); Carmen Novoa (Uruguayan-born, Melbourne based); Jorge Portillo (El-Salvadorian-born, Melbourne based); Ceretha Skinner (Gumbaynggirr woman, Canberra based); Enrique Wong Diaz (Cuba based) and Andrea Tello (Ecuador based).

“Nexus” looks at issues of identity via Latin American artists who live in Australia and overseas and Aboriginal artists who live in Canberra.

“NEXUS,” Tuggeranong Arts Centre Gallery, until October 29, Monday– Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
