Craft Festival for Canberra

WHERE better to hold to stage a slap-up new celebration of the Craft arts than in Craft ACT’s Craft and Design Centre?

That’ll be the location of a new event for the ACT to be called “DESIGN Canberra,” enticingly subtitled “change the way you think.” CraftACT, together with a number of large organisations in Canberra, is calling for expressions of interest.

Among the many other bodies involved are the ANU, the University of Canberra, the CIT the Australian Institute of Architects, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, the Design Institute Australia, the Australian Graphic Design Association and the MOAD at Old Parliament House, National Portrait Gallery.

The festival will see our craft and design practitioners pitching events to a board, which on selecting successful applicants, will expect them to deliver their proposed events or artworks during the festival.

And they not only looking for artists – this callout also goes to entrepreneurs, galleries, organisations, businesses, cultural institutions, educators, curators, students, artists and designers interested in changing the way people think about design.

Some of the ideas include “Design Buzz” – conversations talks and lectures, “Capital of Culture Tours,” a modern high-end market and artists studio tours, but there is much more.

CraftACT tells us the Festival runs for four days and it’s going to be BIG!

DESIGN Canberra : November 20-23. Information about the festival and how to express interest can be found at: http://events.craftact.org.au/design-canberra/
