ESTONIA is famous for its national song celebrations and beautiful choral music, now several members of the Lähte Women’s Choir, one of Estonia’s leading choirs, joined by two professional opera singers from the country’s Vanemuine Theatre, will be in Canberra for one day only tomorrow.
Their unusual program will consist of a set of Estonian folk songs as well as well-known arias from different Estonian operas.
In 2012 Canberra composer and director Judith Clingan’s Wayfarers Australia choir toured the world for seven months, and reports that one of their most enjoyable weeks during that tour was in Estonia.
“The Lähte Women’s Choir… went to amazing lengths to give us a wonderful time,” she told Citynews, “We were hosted by friendly families, driven all over the countryside in a bus which their town’s mayor donated, fed fascinating traditional Estonian food, and given the opportunity to perform in beautiful venues.”
Because the members of Wayfarers live all over Australia, with not many in Canberra, Clingan is hoping that Canberra music lovers of all ages will welcome the performers by attending their singing and instrumental workshop and/or their concert.
