An ‘L-Plater’s’ joy ride ends in a crash

AN 18-year-old L-Plater has been arrested after recklessly driving a stolen car, producing a knife and threatening a bystander on Monday, April 17.

It’s alleged that at about 3.30pm the man stole a Silver Hyundai Lantra and used it to perform several burnouts along Crozier Circuit in Kambah.

Witnesses report the man was fishtailing when he lost control of the car and collided with a stone retaining wall before running from the vehicle.

A bystander attempted to speak to the driver but the man pulled a large hunting knife from his pocket and threatened the person.

That afternoon, at about 5pm police arrested the man in Kambah.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (April 18) on charges of drive motor vehicle without consent, possess offensive weapon with intent, aggravated furious/reckless/dangerous driving and learner driver unaccompanied.
