THE exhibition “Common Threads”, curated by Saskia Scott, shows new work by Marilou Chagnaud, Lucia Dohrmann and Kate Little, who each take common materials ?— paper, thread, canvas and ink – and place them at the centre of their creations. ANCA Gallery, 1 Rosevear Place, Dickson, Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 5pm, October 7-25.

FEMINIST art historian and cultural theorist, Griselda Pollock, will join leading global thinkers for the National Gallery of Australia’s “Know My Name Conference”, which will precede the exhibition “Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now”, which opens on November 14. Singers in Shona the Musical Choir.

WRITER/composer Neo Vilakazi in Edinburgh tells us of “Shona the Musical Choir”, a South African/Scottish ensemble singing songs inspired by turbulent social events in Zimbabwe. It’s part of Vilakazi’s aim to create the next big West End/Broadway musical, post-covid. The choir’s online premiere will take place on Facebook at 9.45am on Thursday, October 8.

DESIGN Canberra is seeking expressions of interest from motivated volunteers to help its team deliver the coming festival, which runs from November 9-29. There are a range of projects, offering different hours and flexibility to fit around work and life commitments.

THE Royal Military College Band Rhythm and Vocal Groups will be at Wesley with favourites like “Somewhere over the Rainbow” as well as Swahili and Zulu film score music from Disney’s “The Lion King”. GOULBURN Regional Art Gallery is opening a new round of exhibitions this week by Alana Cappetta and Barbara Cleveland, as well as “The Window”, curated by Megan Monte, director at Ngununggula, Southern Highlands Regional Gallery.
