Theatre to support new performance work

Canberra Theatre Centre.

CANBERRA Theatre Centre is getting behind new performance work with its development program, “New Works”, and expressions of interest are now open.

The Centre is offering two separate residencies to professional artists, or teams of artists in the Courtyard Studio in 2021.

In the “new ideas” area, Canberra Theatre Centre is offering a one-week residency for the creative development of a new performance from June 7-11.

Artists will have access to The Courtyard Studio from Monday to Friday to develop their ideas, and at the end of the week, the theatre centre will facilitate an invite-only industry showing to support the future of the work, covering all venue and associated costs, including technical support, as well as artist fees for up to six artists, with producing support from its programming team.

Expressions of interest for this opportunity close here at 4pm on Monday, May 17.

For theatre-makers with developed ideas that are ready to rehearse and perform, Canberra Theatre Centre is offering a four-week residency from August 2-29, including two weeks in the rehearsal room, one week for technical rehearsal and five performances.

This residency also includes all venue and associated costs, including technical, box office, and front-of-house staff, as well as artist fees for up to four artists. The Centre will also fund and carry out all marketing and publicity for the presentation and provide producing support from its programming and technical teams.

Expressions of interest for the four-week residency close here at 4pm.

Successful applicants will need to demonstrate a strong and consistent connection to the ACT arts sector and community, a record of success and an ability to deliver on ambition and ideas to create a new performance work will be set as criteria for successful submissions.

There’s not much time left to make a bid.

There will be an information session on Monday, May 10 for interested artists, offering them the opportunity to ask questions about the program, see the space on offer and network with the Theatre Centre team and other ACT artists.
