FOUR people including a Canberra man have been arrested after police smashed a drug supply ring on the NSW south coast.

The 26-year-old Canberra man – linked to an outlaw motorcycle gang – was arrested by police in Braddon yesterday (September 28) and charged with the supply of prohibited drugs.

Three other men, aged 23, 24 and 45, were arrested in Bateman’s Bay following a police investigation into the supply of cocaine and MDMA  in the area.

Earlier this month police seized more than 360g of MDMA believed to be bound for distribution on the south coast, after searching a car on the Federal Highway.

Following further inquiries, police – with assistance from South East and Monaro Region police – searched homes in the Batemans Bay area, while officers from the ACT Policing’s Drug and Organised Crime Team, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Canine and the National Operations Canine Centre searched homes in the Braddon and Mitchell areas.

Police seized seven firearms, gel blasters, a replica handgun, ammunition, two poker machines, cannabis, about 1kg of tobacco, steroids, a substance believed to be MDMA, $1600 in cash, a hydraulic pill press, gunpowder and a prohibited laser pointer.

All men were charged with supply of prohibited drugs and possession of unauthorised firearms and will face court.

ACT Detective Inspector Mark Steel said the arrests were the culmination of state and territory officers working together for a joint cause.

“We work very closely with all our interstate colleagues to disrupt cross-border criminal activity occurring in the ACT and surrounding region,” he said.

“The success of this operation ultimately means there are less drugs and weapons on our streets and that can only be a good thing.”
