Fourth covid jab to open to over 30s

PEOPLE over the age of 30 will be able to receive their fourth COVID-19 vaccination from next week (July 11).

The Australian Technical Advisory Group (ATAGI) has recommended that anyone of the age of 50 receive the fourth shot and confirmed it will be available to those as young as 30 from Monday.

The second booster shot had previously not been available to anyone under 65.

Health Minister Mark Butler said the fourth vaccine will be important in the face of a third covid wave placing pressure on the country’s hospital systems.

“Just because you had covid earlier in the year, doesn’t mean you’re not at risk of getting it again with this third wave,” said Mr Butler.

“Being up-to-date with your vaccines is crucial to protecting you against the risk of severe disease and particularly the risk of hospitalisation or worse,” he said.
