A 50-year-old male cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck from behind near the intersection with the Tuggeranong Parkway on Saturday morning.
Police say he was cycling eastbound in the bicycle lane on Cotter Road when he was allegedly struck from behind by a blue Holden Commodore on Cotter Road.
The Commodore driver, a 23-year-old man from Wright, was subjected to a roadside alcohol screening test which returned a positive result. He was taken to Woden Police Station where further testing returned a blood alcohol content of 0.142 – more than two and a half times the legal limit.
Police served the driver with a Court Attendance Notice for drink driving and say he is likely to face further charges.
