Motorcyclist the third road death in 48 hours

The car that collided with a tree in Melba yesterday evening.

POLICE say the driver died on impact but, amazingly, the passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the single-vehicle collision on Kingsford Smith Drive, Melba, yesterday evening (May 20).

It was the second second fatality in 24 hours in the ACT and the eighth for the year.

Just after 5pm  the blue car, which was travelling southbound, had crossed the median strip, and the northbound carriageway, before running into a tree. 

Police, ambulance paramedics and firefighters were on the scene and, upon arrival, confirmed the driver of the car was dead, and the passenger had sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The police Major Crash Team is asking that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured dash-cam footage of it should call 1800 333000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website
