One dead, another injured in head-on crash

A MAN in his 20’s has died and a woman is in critical condition following a head-on car crash on Hindmarsh Drive last night (May 19).

The crash occurred around 10.55pm, west of the intersection at Mugga Lane between Red Hill and O’Malley.

Police say one of the vehicles was travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the second vehicle.

A male driver in his 20s was extracted from his vehicle and transported to Canberra with life threatening injuries where he was pronounced as deceased. A female in the second vehicle remains in critical condition.

It marks the seventh death on ACT roads this year, and comes during National Road Safety week.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway, including the possibility that a second vehicle may have also been travelling east in the westbound lanes of Hindmarsh Drive prior to the collision.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
