A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with two counts of culpable driving causing death, following a single vehicle collision yesterday (October 9).
Two teenage girls, aged 14 and 15, died at the scene of the collision – in the northbound lanes of the Monaro Highway at Hume – after the Toyota sedan they were riding in left the roadway, crashed through some temporary fencing and collided with a tree.
The boy has been charged with breaching his bail, breaching a good behaviour order, driving as an unaccompanied learner, and failing to stop and render assistance.
He is expected to face the ACT Children’s Court today.
The ACT road death toll now stands at 14 for this year, up from 11 in 2021.
