CANBERRA are riding high after their famous upset of Brisbane, but coach Ricky Stuart has a pointed message for his players: “Good teams do that every week”.

The chance to back up their huge result comes on Sunday when they host under-fire St George Illawarra in the nation’s capital, where they start as warm favourites.

Not only do the Raiders have the momentum of their 20-14 win against the previously undefeated Broncos, but they also get back five-eighth Jack Wighton, prop Joe Tapine and winger Nick Cotric.

Stuart is hoping his side will bring the same intensity, joking he’ll “coach for 50 years” if he knew the secret to ensuring they enter every match at peak motivation.

“We’ve got to go play well, coach well,” he said.

“Just because we were cranky with ourselves in regards to our performance beforehand and then we got up to play a really good game of football, that shouldn’t be the reason why.

“Good football teams do that every week and that’s what we have to do.

“It’s dead and buried that game. We keep those standards and go again.”

Tapine returns from the birth of his daughter while Wighton will also be fresh after a two-week suspension. Cotric returns ahead of schedule after a hamstring injury suffered in the lead-up to round three.

Their task was to mesh with the cohesive performance their teammates delivered and not try to steal the show, Stuart said.

“It’s not a matter of them coming in to win us a game of football, it’s a matter of them coming in and joining the standards we set last week,” he said.

“We’ve got to keep those standards and I don’t expect those to drop off.

“It’s one thing we focused on this week, making sure we’re happy with our contributions individually, and we work hard for every individual to try and play their best game of football each week.

Another boost is on the way soon with young gun fullback Xavier Savage set to play NSW Cup on Sunday in his first game back from a pre-season broken jaw.

Savage has been named on a wing but will share fullback with fellow starlet No.1 Chevy Stewart.

“It’s good to get him back there, it’s going to be good for him to get some game conditioning now and confidence after breaking his jaw.

“Just getting some confidence, getting back in the collision. It’s a big job … he’s getting the match condition that he needs to be a fullback.”
