Accused media chief resigns

Resigned… Michael McGoogan.

Media chief Michael McGoogan, who is facing domestic violence charges, has resigned from his role as co-CEO and director of Region, the company that publishes the Canberra news blog Riotact.

Mr McGoogan is charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and once count of resisting a territory official. He pleaded not guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court a week ago.

Police allege Mr McGoogan, 37, dragged a young woman across the floor by her arm, stepping on her hair and ripping it out with his hands in a drunken late-night incident. Police also claim he resisted arrest at his Kingston house at about 1am on April 19.

Last month Mr McGoogan stepped aside as co-CEO and on Thursday, according to a report on Riotact, he resigned from both his role as co-CEO and director. There was no mention as to the future of his shareholding.

Company founder Tim White remains as the company’s sole CEO.

Mr McGoogan is expected to face the Magistrates Court family violence list on June 18.
