Ray, a one-year-old kelpie puppy, is on the road to a second chance after spending more than half of its life on the streets. 

Canberra Pet Rescue president and founder Amanda Doelle says the pup was timid and uncertain when it was brought to the Queanbeyan Pound by a local resident.

Amanda says Ray found a home at Canberra Pet Rescue, where they spent weeks building the dog’s trust. Despite this, it still required specialised foster care before a Melbourne-based carer, who works with unsocialised dogs and working breeds, offered to provide the care Ray needed.

“Queanbeyan Vet Hospital kindly squeezed Ray in for a full health check, desexing, microchipping and vaccination before his journey,” she says.

“This was all arranged and funded by Canberra Pet Rescue. We even sent him off with a new collar, toys and a few comforts for the road ahead.

“Ray’s story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when rescuers, vets and community supporters come together by giving vulnerable animals a second chance at life.”
