Woman assaulted with frying pan and hot water

A 24-year-old man allegedly assaulted his partner with a frying pan and hot water on Saturday morning.

Police say the man and his partner got into an argument at their home in Richardson.

Police allege he then assaulted her using a frying pan and used a hammer to damage items in the home, as well as forcing her to the ground and strangling her.

He then poured hot water on her and the woman attempted to leave the residence with a young child, but he allegedly threatened her dog.

The man turned himself into the Tuggeranong Police Station on Tuesday night, where he was arrested.

He has been charged with family violence offences including two counts of aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of aggravated common assault, and choking, suffocating or strangling another person.

We seem to be hearing about many more domestic violence assaults than previously. Is this because more are happening? Because more are being reported to police? More are being prosecuted? Media is paying more attention? Of course, it could be all of these.

Hopefully action is being taken to better protect victims and reform or restrict abusers.

The report of a young lady being assaulted by her 24yo partner with a frying pan and hammer is really very disturbing. I am shocked that this type of violence is occurring in close proximity to us. I wish I knew the answer to preventing this type of violence, but whatever is in place now has been around far too long and we need to try other things. I suspect the court’s decisions are not helping much either.
