The ACT government will investigate a purpose-built respite and wellbeing hub for carers as part of the final action plan of its 2018-2028 Carers Strategy.
The 2026-2028 plan also proposes examining a carers recognition card to make accessing services easier, updating the handbook for foster and kinship carers, and exploring a mentoring program to help young carers continue their education and find employment.
Community Services Minister Caitlin Tough says about 58,000 people in the ACT provide unpaid care to family members, friends and neighbours.
Developed in partnership with Carers ACT, the plan focuses on improving access to services, recognising carers, supporting young carers and strengthening coordination between services.
The proposed hub, recognition card and mentoring program remain subject to investigation rather than confirmed commitments.
