Bargains, homemade treats and community spirit are on the menu as Goodwin Village Farrer residents prepare for their annual Market Day on October 24. This is a sponsored post.
A much-loved Canberra community tradition is returning this weekend, with Goodwin Village Farrer residents inviting everyone to enjoy a morning of bargains, delicious food, entertainment and connection at Farrer Market Day on Saturday October 24.
Running from 9am to 1pm at 6 and 10 Marshall Street, Farrer, the free event promises stalls brimming with pre-loved treasures, handmade crafts, books, plants, jewellery, clothes, cakes and preserves, with plenty of surprises for bargain hunters.
But behind the busy stalls is a story of friendship, generosity and residents working together to make something special happen.
June Hicks, the event convener and a Goodwin Village Farrer resident, says the weeks of planning and preparation have been as rewarding as the event itself.
“I’m so proud of our residents and the incredible effort they’ve put into making another Market Day possible,” June said. “People have given their time, shared their talents and helped wherever they can. It really shows what we can achieve when we come together.”
For June, the value of the Market Day extends well beyond the money raised.
“Planning something like this brings people together who might not otherwise have had the chance to get to know each other,” she said. “We’ve seen new friendships develop and people find a real sense of purpose and connection. That can mean so much, particularly when someone is going through a difficult time in their personal life.”
Giving back is another important motivation for residents, with Market Day proceeds supporting worthy causes, including a donation to Dementia Australia for dementia research.
“Knowing that our efforts can make a difference beyond our village makes the whole experience even more meaningful,” June said.
Andrew Rossiter, Village Manager says Goodwin is proud to support resident-led initiatives that strengthen relationships within the village and with the wider Canberra community.
“Our residents are the driving force behind this event, and Goodwin is delighted to support them in bringing their ideas to life,” he said. “These occasions create opportunities for people to contribute, connect and feel part of something bigger. And with so much on offer, there really is something for everyone. It’s a true community event.”
Visitors can enjoy children’s activities, entertainment and a sausage sizzle, or stop at Café Nina for coffee, Devonshire tea and a selection of hot meals.
Whether you’re hunting for a hidden treasure, catching up with neighbours or simply enjoying a morning out, the residents of Goodwin Village Farrer would love to welcome you.
