Partner allegedly strangled, assaulted with belt

A 47-year-old man has been charged after allegedly strangling, suffocating and assaulting his partner at their south Canberra home last month.

Police allege the man strangled the woman, struck her in the head several times, attempted to suffocate her and assaulted her with a belt on September 24.

The incident was reported to police and the man was arrested in Civic on Tuesday night.

He has been charged with two counts each of choking, suffocating or strangling another person and aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count of common assault.
