Police issued 76 fines and 45 defect notices during a two-night operation targeting dangerous driving on Canberra’s rural roads.
The operation on Friday and Saturday nights also detected two drink drivers and five drug drivers, while three vehicles were seized for improper use.
One man was arrested on an outstanding warrant, while another, who was subject to bail conditions, was charged with driving while disqualified and possessing an offensive weapon.
Detective Inspector Mark Steel said dangerous driving and large late-night gatherings on rural roads posed a risk to the community.
“You’ve only got to drive along some of our rural roads to see the aftermath of some of this activity, which is totally unacceptable to our rural communities,” he said.
Police say patrols and enforcement targeting hooning and dangerous driving will continue.
