Qatar Airways will resume flights to Canberra in December, restoring a direct international connection to the national capital after more than two years.
The airline will restart services from December 8, operating four flights a week before increasing to daily services from March.
Canberra Airport CEO Stephen Byron said the return of Qatar Airways was an important milestone in rebuilding the region’s international aviation network.
“Qatar Airways’ return is fantastic news for Canberra and the broader region. It restores an important global connection for Australia’s capital and gives travellers greater choice,” he said.
The announcement follows the launch of Virgin Australia’s new direct Bali service from Canberra earlier this week and comes as Fiji Airways continues to operate services between Canberra and Nadi, providing onward international connections.
Mr Byron said Canberra had “never been more connected” internationally.
The restored service will provide Canberra travellers with one-stop access to Qatar Airways’ extensive international network through its Doha hub.
