Civic Library will remain closed until December after a water leak caused damage to the building and mould was discovered in wall and floor cavities.
The ACT government says the leak was identified following roof inspections, with further investigations revealing damage to sections of the roof, ceiling, walls and floor.
Surface mould was also found in a wall and floor cavity.
Specialist contractors will undertake repairs, cleaning and mould remediation, with safety testing required before the library can reopen.
Library members can continue using other Libraries ACT branches and accessing digital services, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines and online learning resources.
Customers with affected room bookings or reserved items will be contacted about alternative arrangements.
Borrowed items can be returned to any other Libraries ACT branch, but Civic Library’s return chutes will remain closed.
Updates on the reopening date will be available on the Libraries ACT website.
