Canberra science storyteller Dr Chloe Lim has won the STEM Teachers Award at the 2026 Women of Colour in STEM Awards in Melbourne.

The molecular biologist and founder of Twistyfic was recognised for using story-driven shows and hands-on activities to make science more accessible and inclusive for children.

Her free, grant-funded programs have reached more than 1076 children across Canberra through partnerships with organisations including Communities at Work, Libraries ACT and YWCA Canberra.

Lim also delivered Foodie Fun Play at Canberra community venues during National Science Week in August, reaching more than 400 people. The program, developed with Nutrition Australia ACT and the University of Canberra, uses food to introduce young children to science.

“I spent 14 years in medical research studying DNA. These days, my lab is a room full of curious kids,” Lim says.

“When children see a scientist who looks like them, or who took a winding path to get here, it widens their sense of who science is for.”

The awards, presented at Arts Centre Melbourne on October 5, recognised women across 15 STEM categories.
